I am utterly loathe to provide this point, but the companies giving smaller wage increases are probably acutely aware of what they are doing, and have decided to gamble on enough people staying that they’ll net save money, even after investing in recruiting and onboarding costs. @GergelyOrosz/1501905386940551171

      (I say “probably” bc the higher you go in management the less you understand your workers and their needs so who knows maybe they just think they hired a bunch of whiners)

        And yes this is a short-sighted gamble—as salaries rise all around eventually they’re going to have to catch up—but especially with publicly traded companies short-term savings by the C-suite are rewarded by the market regardless of long-term outcomes.
